Charlottesville!!
Best of college towns — part one
Charlottesville, located in central Virginia, is home to many mountains, history, and opportunity.
Charlottesville is such a unique place to visit. From the chill downtown mall to the beautiful blue ridge mountains, it has an enough to offer for a quick trip. At the downtown mall, there are a variety of restaurants, like Italian, Chinese, American, and more. During the holiday season, the mall puts up Christmas lights, creating a joyful atmosphere for visitors like in the photo above. The old buildings give the mall energetic vibe. One cool element of the mall, is the First Amendment wall. The First Amendment wall is located towards the end of the mall, and represents the freedom of speech. There’s chalk along the wall for people to express themselves in a positive manner by writing. The downtown mall is great to visit anytime of the day, but it is most busiest during late afternoon hours.
Next, let us bring you on a tour of the Blue Ridge mountains. The Blue Ridge mountains are located to the west Charlottesville. There are many trials you can trek up, however most of them close during the winter. Also, found at the top of this mini mountain range is Monticello. The Monticello is President Thomas Jefferson’s old house. At Monticello, you can tour of his house, take in the unbelievable views, and explore America’s history from the late 1700’s. Even if you aren’t a history fan, we still recommend checking it out because it is quite extraordinary.
One more cool thing to check out in Charlottesville is the amazing, well known University of Virginia: (UVA). UVA is one of the best schools in the country, with strong sport teams, and academics. During sport season, we highly recommend watching a couple games. If you are a huge UVA fan we encourage that you visit the gift store, full of a variety of merchandise. Just walking around the University is cool, as it is one of the oldest schools in the country. The architecture of some of the buildings is outstanding.
Overall, we confidently believe that Charlottesville is a great place to check out. Charlottesville is best seen in a couple of days, like a weekend trip (as it is no Disney World). Fall and Spring are the better times to visit, it is often very hot in the summer, and a bit cooler in the winter. There is a small airport in Charlottesville, but flying in and out of Dulles International airport or Ronald Reagan National airport are cheaper and easier options because there are more flexible flights. Charlottesville is only two hours away from Washington DC.
